On March 8, 2022, Old Soldiers Home Foundation board members Pat MacArevey and Travis Smith presented Armed Forces Retirement Home resident Fred Layman and administrator Susan Bryhan with a $5,000 donation to the Home’s resident fund to help the golf program get up and running for the 2022 season.  Mr. Layman, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is chair of the Home’s resident advisory council as well as the “golf superintendent”, volunteering time and elbow grease to care for the primarily resident-run nine-hole golf course.  The course has been on the home’s grounds since 1900 and is an important amenity helping residents stay active and social.  It is not operated with taxpayer funds, so relies on donations, membership fees, and volunteers to keep it running.  The Foundation gave over $5,000 in 2021 to help with golf cart repair and startup expenses, and is proud to give again in 2022.
