Veterans golf tournament

On May 21, 2022, volunteers from Vetforce (a veteran job training, recruitment, and community impact arm of Salesforce.com) partnered with the Old Soldiers Home Foundation and Fairways for Warriors to hold a joint golf tournament with residents and staff at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C.

Teams set off early to get their rounds in before the heat of the day, finishing with a cookout and awards for longest drive and best score.  Fairways for Warriors presented AFRH with a signed copy of “The Twenty Year War” to add to the home’s library, a photo journal with 71 stories from veterans of the Global War on Terror, including an inscription from Roy Bell who is featured in the book and helped organize the golf tournament.

From AFRH’s Facebook post about the tournament: “all came together for a friendly competition building partnerships, increasing awareness and raising funds for our distinguished veteran community. Hats off to a great day of food, folks and fun. “It was a great day of fun to be had by all, ” AFRH-W resident and long-time golf enthusiast Fred Layman (USAF) said.” A few weeks before the tournament, Vetforce volunteers came on site to help with much needed cleaning and maintenance of the course.

The Old Soldiers Home Foundation was proud to partner with Vetforce, Fairways for Warriors, and Armed Forces Retirement Home to make this event happen.
