Game night

Old Soldiers Home Foundation board members joined Armed Forces Retirement Home--Washington residents on Apr. 14, 2023 for a fun Friday evening of games, pizza, and camaraderie. Resident advisory council members, foundation supporters, and AFRH staff organized the event featuring pizza, drinks at the Defenders’ Inn bar, and indoor games for small cash prizes including putting, basketball, cornhole, and jenga. Fortunately the weather cooperated to also enjoy the patio to chat and get to know each other better. Special thanks to everyone who helped with the event, especially:

• Paul Armbruster and Hilary Rosado who did most of the planning and wrangling

• Game referees Fred Layman, Chip Bechtel, Marla McGuinness, and Evelyn Chandler-Payne

• Christine Engle and Terry Tackett who helped modify games so all residents could compete

• Dave Kaetzel, Aura Matias, Jack Bruneel, and Carol Rhan who served pizza

• Bartenders Sheldon Shorthouse and Lauren Mitchell

• Setup and cleanup brigade Colby Shahan, Tim Brundle, and James Ruebeck

• Sandra Alvey, Steve Rippe, Kate Rice, and others who contributed to the Defenders’ Inn tip jar, raising over $300 for the resident fund
